What Is Pipe Relining?

Pipe relining is a process where a resin impregnated pipe lining is placed on the isewnside of an existing damaged pipe to seal any leaks or cracks, and smooth uneven surfaces. It means that we can fix broken pipes without the need to dig a large hole and replace the section of pipe. This can not only save you time and money usually needed to dig up pipes under various structures etc, but also the hassle of having your home or business disrupted for extensive work.

In many cases, blocked drains are caused by root intrusion, whereby tree roots etc grow into small cracks in pipes to access the moisture. In many cases, a plumber will remove these roots using an eel or water jet . However, as long as the crack remains the roots will continue to grow back. With pipe relining services, we can repair the cracks with the minimum impact to your property and therefore reduce the chance of future plumbing issues.

The pipe relining solutions that we use all come with an independently tested 50-year design life. The actual pipe lining in many cases will be structurally stronger than the original pipe it is reinforcing.

How Do You Reline a Pipe?

The pipe relining process offers a modern, less invasive solution to damaged drainage pipes or sewer piping.

  • Drain Clearing : If necessary, a high-pressure water jetter is used to remove stubborn blockages and completely clear the pipe
  • CCTV Drain Inspection : A specialised drain camera inspects the pipe's interior, pinpointing the exact location and nature of the damage
  • Pipe Relining - A flexible, resin saturated liner is inserted into the existing pipe and inflated
  • Curing : The liner cures in place, essentially creating a strong new "pipe within a pipe"
  • Result: A restored sewer system with long-lasting, no dig pipe repairs

Benefits of Pipe Relining & Is Pipe Relining Worth It?

Pipe relining offers a vastly advantageous alternative to traditional pipe repair methods, boasting many benefits:

  • Cost Effective: While the initial cost may seem a little higher, pipe relining eliminates the expense of excavation, landscaping repair, and extended labor costs, often making it a more affordable solution in the long run
  • No Pipe Replacement Required: Your existing pipes can be restored, saving you the hassle and expense of full scale old pipes replacement
  • No Major Disruption to Your Home or Business: Trenchless pipe relining means minimal digging, allowing your property and routines to remain largely undisturbed.
  • Prevents Future Problems: The new lining creates a strong barrier against leaks, root intrusion, and other issues that lead to major repairs or replacement down the line.

So, What Are The Disadvantages Of Pipe Relining?

The primary consideration is the upfront cost. It can be slightly higher than some traditional drain pipe repairs services. However, when you factor in the long term savings due to avoided excavation, landscaping restoration, and the prevention of future major plumbing problems, pipe relining often proves itself to be the more financially sound option.

When Can You Use Pipe Relining?

Traditionally if you had an issue with a sewer or stormwater drain pipe, you asked a plumber to dig it up and either repair or replace it. This, however, can create all sorts of headaches when the sewer or drain travels under permanent or semi permanent structures such as driveways, pathways, tennis courts, and even buildings. In these cases, you would need to jackhammer through the structure to get to the pipe and then rebuild the structure when you are finished. As you can imagine, this can be very disruptive and take a lot of time and money.

Trenchless pipe lining allows us to repair the drain or sewer piping where they are, without the need to dig up the pipe. So as long as the pipe is still essentially structurally sound, we can fix it with pipe relining.

Drain relining can be used to repair:

  • Cracked Pipes
  • Uneven Drains
  • Broken Drains
  • Holes In Pipes
  • Sewer Pipes
  • Stormwater Drains

Are All Pipe Relining Solutions The Same?

In a word, no. There are many pipe relining products that have no design life engineered into them (this is essentially how long they are designed and engineered to last). The pipe relining products we use have at least a 50 year use lifespan.

We use various methods depending on the size and location of the damaged drain. These can include pipe patching for smaller sections or pipe relining for longer lengths of broken drain.failed pipe lining
